On February 27, 2014, the closing “spot price” or current price of silver was $21.24 per ounce. On the other hand, one of the most recognizable precious metals from the commodities market is gold. Gold’s closing spot price on the same day was $1,331.80 per ounce.

The idea of creating a free text-messaging app, depending on different variables of course could be worth millions or even billions. In fact, look no further than the recent purchase of WhatsApp by Facebook for $19 billion.

What does the market of commodities and a smartphone application have in common? They each have value.

In today’s celebrity enriched society, reality shows with absolutely no substance and the thirst for gaining 15 minutes of fame, seeking attention has become the new currency. Attention in this blog’s example is something that has no real value. Continue reading →
